Rob Lovering (Ph.D.) is Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Philosophy Department at CUNY - College of Staten Island. His philosophical interests include ethics, applied ethics, bioethics, and the philosophy of religion. He has published five books—four monographs, one edited volume—with leading academic publishers. In each book, Professor Lovering addresses a culturally controversial and sensitive philosophical topic, defending (deftly, according to reviews) the less popular—but, as Lovering argues, more defensible—position on it. He has also published numerous articles on a wide variety of topics in academic journals (including Bioethics, Sophia, Religious Studies, and Philosophy in the Contemporary World) and a philosophical magazine (Philosophy Now).
Professor Lovering has taught thousands of students over his career. Though the vast majority of them have been college students, he has also taught high schoolers (through Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth), graduate students, retirees (through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute), and many others. In addition to this course, Dr. Lovering offers two other online courses: Bioethics with Rob Lovering and Critical Thinking with Rob Lovering.
He lives with his wife and kids in New York City.
